How To Apply For The R350 Grant Under The New Rules

Sassa is a government agency responsible for administering social assistance programs to eligible citizens in need of financial assistance. As part of the social grant distribution system, SASSA manages the distribution of Child Support Grants, Old Persons Grants, Disability Grants, and Foster Care Grants.

Social Relief of Distress grants, otherwise known as the R350 grants or SRD grants, were introduced by Sassa during the Covid-19 pandemic to assist the most disadvantaged members of society. Despite the end of the State of Disaster, the SRD grant will continue. It is now managed under new rules, however.

Sassa works closely with the Department of Social Development (DSD) and non-governmental organizations to identify vulnerable individuals and South African citizens in need of assistance. In South Africa, the agency plays a crucial role in reducing poverty and promoting social inclusion.

Changes To The Social Relief Grant Application Process

Due to the fact that South Africa is no longer in a state of disaster, Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants are now managed under the Social Assistance Act and not the State of Disaster Act. There are a few changes to the SRD grants as a result.

The SRD grant was due to expire in March 2023. However, it has been announced that the extension will last until March 2024 at least. To allow for the monthly extension of the grant for 10.5 million beneficiaries, an amount of R44 billion has been allocated.

Sassa R350 grant applications are open every month. As Sassa continues to open new payment locations, beneficiaries will be able to access grant payments more easily - and grant payment dates will be more convenient as well. check also Sassa Status Check for R350

In order to keep track of the outcome of your R350 grant application, you should check your Sassa status. The new Social Assistance Act encourages existing beneficiaries to reapply.

You will not have to apply again once you have reapplied. We would like to inform you that the application process may take up to three months (90 days).

There is a recommendation that applicants submit only one application instead of multiple applications across various platforms. The application will be confirmed as soon as it has been successfully submitted.

An SMS will inform applicants if they have been approved for the Social Relief of Distress grant.
